“1415 The Beginning” pays true homage to when Zain Bhikha began recording in 1994/1415 AH. 2009 marks fifteen years since he officially released his first independent debut album “A Way of Life”. The release of 1415 pays tribute to his beginnings with 12 emotionally driven tracks including ‘Mum and Dad’, ‘I Remember your Smile’ and the ‘Prophets Faithful Friend’. The album also features a fresh new approach to classic songs such as ‘Fortunate is He’.

About Hussain’s ‘Shah-e-Medina’ Album

The first Urdu Naat album from Jamal Records, classic, traditional naats using Daff and Voice only. Featuring Zain Bhikha and Benammi.

Urdu naats have long been an integral part of Muslim South Asian culture. Generations have grown up listening to them and have found them to be a great source for learning the seerah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Naats ultimately show us the generous favour Allah bestowed upon us by allowing us to be part of His Beloved’s community.

Recently the genre has been popularised significantly through the efforts of great reciters such as Muhammad Owais Qadri and Yusuf Memon, who bring their own feel and passion to the beautiful poetry that glorifies Allah and praises the beloved RasulAllah (peace be upon him).

Shah-e-Medina is an album by Hussain that showcases his approach to the naats that he grew up listening to – which remind him of pleasant days celebrating the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The melodies remain traditional but the influences of Hussain’s musical environment as a youngster raised in the UK are evident, as is the distinct North African feel lent by producer and artist Benammi, from Morocco.

The album, which was recorded with voice and daff only, also features Zain Bhikha from South Africa on the popular naat Jashne Ahmed Rasool. He too brings his vocal and writing talents to the genre.

Shah-e-Medina is a celebration of the Prophet Muhammad, the beloved of Allah (peace and blessing be upon him).

About Labbayk

Labbayk is a nasheed group based in London, UK. The group started singing officially in Islamic events from the year 2003 and have been doing live performances around the UK. The group consist of 3 brothers, Masum, Ehsaan and Imran. The nasheeds composed have no musical instruments and no musical instruments were utilised in composing the vocal harmonies. The lyrics and content have been verified by scholars in order to maintain the limits and boundaries of Shari’ah.

About Maher Zain

Maher’s first musical inspiration came from his father, who was a singer himself, performing locally in the beautiful Mediterranean city of Tripoli – Lebanon. Fascinated by the music and instruments, Maher got his first keyboard when he was only ten and ever since music officially became part of Maher’s world.

The family moved to Sweden when Maher was only 8, where he continued his schooling, and later entered university and got a Bachelors degree in Aeronautical Engineering. With things changing around him, one thing remained the same – his strong passion for music. He would spend late nights at school with his friends where they would sing, rap, compose and experiment with music in every way. It didn’t take him long to realize that music became an integral part of who he is.

After being involved for a while in the music scene in Sweden as a music producer, Maher was introduced to RedOne, a gifted music producer who was fast rising in the music scene in Sweden. Maher started working with RedOne with Swedish artists, and later moved with him to New York. For a few years he was in the middle of the hot rush of the NY music industry, working with chart topping artists such as Kat Deluna on her debut album which included smash hits ‘Whine up’ and ‘Run the Show’.

Maher had what many would describe as a dream job for someone so young in such a glamorous business, but for Maher it felt like this was far from what he would call ‘the dream’, “I loved the music but I hated everything that surrounded it, it always felt like something wasn’t right”. RedOne was on the verge of breaking into the big time, going on to work with artists like Akon, Lady Gaga, Enrique Iglesias, Brandy, New Kids on the Block, and Michael Jackson to mention just a few, and becoming one of the most sought-after music producers in the world. Maher however was restless and eventually decided that the music industry and all that surrounded wasn’t the right place for him and he returned to Sweden. It wasn’t until he met a group of brothers who were active in the Islamic community in Stockholm and he started regularly attending his local mosque that he felt like he’d reached ‘home’.

Maher feels blessed to able to finally find the right way, and feels like it’s his turn now to help others through his music to do the same: “If I had one thing I’d like to tell people out there it would be that it’s so easy to see the right way if we just open our eyes and look properly; that’s what happened to me.”

Alhamdulillah, I’ve finished the recording of the album so I’m taking some time off and travelling. The album is in the final stages of mixing and mastering and will be ready in a couple of weeks inshallah. Remember me in your du’as.

Abdullah Rolle is personally one of my favourite nasheed artists. His beautiful harmonious nasheeds are recited without any instruments or duff, and are soothing and heart warming to listen to, with lyrics to match. About Abdullah Rolle

Abdullah Rolle is a British artist with over 20 year experience in the music industry. Abdullah was born Kirwin Steven Rolle in Clapton, East London. His interest in music started at an early age. At university he studied Music Production and completed specialist music courses. Abdullah spent most of the 1980’s and 1990’s travelling between London, New York, Los Angeles and Toronto working for major record labels and world famous artist.

In 2002 Abdullah returned to London and managed a record production company before setting up his own company. Of the many services provided Abdullah worked in the community and especially with the youth passing down his many years of experience.

In 2004 Abdullah embraced Islam and spent some time learning about the religion and studying the Qur’an. He has since used his music skills to produce high quality audio lectures for Al-Quran Society and worked in the community including the Islamic Sharia Council.

JazakAllah Khair to NasheedsNow.com member kakazed for uploading an Arabic nasheed mix CD collection titled ‘Just Awesome’ compiled in South Africa. So far he has uploaded Volumes 1-3 and posted the links in the forums. I have only included Volumes 2 and 3 in this post because the audio quality in Volume 1 is poor, but it is still available in the forum if you want it. Volume 4 is coming soon. Here is kakazed’s message:

There are some albums going the rounds here [in South Africa] called Just Awesome. All Arabic nasheeds which I gather, some dudes compile. They select the best you’ll find around – and make an awesome album. Thus the name. Enjoy!

About Talib al-Habib

Talib al-Habib was born in London in 1976 and grew up in Manchester, before moving to South Africa with his family for a ten year stay. It was here that he met his spiritual guide and began traversing the path of traditional Islam – the methodology of uniting the practical, intellectual and experiential facets of religion – under his instruction. He later returned to the UK in early 2002.

His distinctive style of inshad arises from a ten year childhood association with the Manchester Boy’s Choir, where he received vocal and technical training.

He began composing spiritual poetry and songs at the age of sixteen, and has continued to do so ever since. In early 2004, he was encouraged to compile a collection of English-language spiritual songs, which has culminated in ‘Songs of Innocence,’ an intensely personal journey into the experiential dimensions of Islam. He is also an author of three books of Islamic spirituality and ethics.

Talib has been a student of the sacred sciences for several years, which he pursues both through the traditional method of sitting with a shaykh, as well as through more contemporary approaches. He hopes to one day continue his studies at the classical centres of learning. Talib al-Habib is a takhallus (pen-name) meaning, ‘seeker of the beloved.’ Currently, he lives in the West Midlands, where he practises as a Medical Doctor specialising in Psychiatry. He is married with two young daughters.

A Message from Talib

“Allah is pleased with one who hears my words, heeds [and internalises] them, and then conveys them as they heard them.”

All praise is for Allah, who brought humanity out from the blinding darknesses of ignorance into the life-giving light of faith, out of pure mercy and love for them. And endless peace and blessings upon His most blessed and beloved Prophet Muhammad al-Mustafa, whom He sent as a universal mercy unto all of creation, and whom He created in a state of complete inward and outward perfection as a exemplar, teacher and model for all people.

I have a confession: this is an accidental album. After Songs of Innocence, Nur al-Habib Productions and myself had begun working on an entirely different follow-up. That all changed during a visit to South Africa, in December 2005, upon hearing a delightful group of brothers known as Aswat al-Ilham singing an arabic nasheed. I suddenly realised that this ’song’ was in fact the last hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari (adapted and reproduced here with permission).

These initial seeds of inspiration came to fruition sometime later when, trying to introduce my children to hadith, I would sing the wording to help them memorize it. This album is my attempt to share some of the results with you, my respected listeners.

Most of the nasheeds on this album are based directly on the wisdom-filled words of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (s). They are structured around the actual text of several ahadith – either in complete or partial form. In addition, I have made an attempt to translate, in verse form, either the literal meaning or the transmitted understanding of the narration.

Upon listening to a particular Nasheed, you will actually be performing audition (sam`a) of the very words spoken by Rasulullah (s), as well as gaining an understanding of the guidance contained within them. Although you may not immediately recognise any of the tracks or melodies, every song on this album is ‘traditional’ in the truest sense of the word. It is my prayer that through this, Allah may illuminate all of our hearts with the light of faith, love and compassion, after the life-model of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (s). May Allah bless you and forgive me.

It is a song in praise of Allah, wondering at how the body, the mind and the heart can unite in worship and contemplation of Allah. It begins the album in deference to the words of Rasulullah (s), ‘any important matter that does not begin with praise of Allah and blessings upon his Prophet (s) will be devoid of blessedness.’

About this nasheed » (Tirmidhi) This glorification of Allah is the gift of the Prophet Ibrahim (as) to the Ummah al-Muhammadiyya on the night of Mi’raj when he met Rasulullah (s) in the seventh heaven. They are the seedlings of Paradise, and many other Hadith mention their great virtue. Each verse of the song succinctly explains one of the components of the dhikr.

About this nasheed » (Muslim) This nasheed is based on Rasulullah’s (s) definition of belief (iman) in the famous Hadith of Gibril. It lists the six articles he (s) described, with the addition of ‘resurrection after death,’ as mentioned by most of the scholars. Each of the six are then briefly explained in the verses, to the refrain of, ‘there is no god but Allah.’ It will serve to introduce children to the basics of classical aqida in an engaging manner, insha-Allah.

About this nasheed » (Various) This nasheed was composed to honour the Beloved Prophet (s) and also to introduce children to one of the most beautiful fields of hadith studies – the Shama’il (descriptive) literature. Just as the sahaba preserved the guidance of Rasulullah (s), they also loving preserved his (s) blessed physical description. As his (s) Sunna brings guidance, so his (s) Shama’il awakens love for Rasulullah (s). Each verse is directly based on a hadith describing his physical attributes, names or character; and the refrain ‘Balagha al-Ula’ is the famous poem of Shaykh Sa’di. This nasheed is part of a much longer work that will eventually, insha-allah, become the first complete description of Rasulullah (s) in English verse.

About this nasheed » (Bukhari) The album ends with the short but powerful hadith that Imam al-Bukhari chose to end his great work Sahih al-Bukhari. It is narrated here in full, and the translation is as follows: ‘there are two phrases which are beloved of the Most Merciful, light on the tongue, yet heavy on the scales (of reward): glory be to Allah and all praise to Him, glory be to Allah, the Mighty.’

Jabbar and Ali – The Builderz Album (Hip-Hop)

Just a warning…these nasheeds are hip-hop based and a bit liberal in terms of their use of music and lyrics.

Introducing NYC’s own The Lead, a duo of well rounded, gifted artists with a vision of making authentic and original music that sets them apart from the redundant artists and sound so prevalent in Hip Hop today. They bring a broad scope touching on real aspects of life in their music with wit, humor, passion and raw emotion.

This is evident in “Dedication” (a track about Ali Umar’s father and Jabbaruddin’s Mother who have struggled and eventually succumbed to illnesses such as prostate cancer and diabetes/stroke respectively) which calls to remain being strong and determined despite adverse situations. The Lead approaches adversities such as illness and death with sincerity, seriousness and emotional depth. This is evident in their flows, as Jabbaruddin mentions in “Dedication” when referencing to his mother’s illness : “Damn! Why couldn’t it be me ?! Saying Damn ! at least I believe !!!/But that’s a different story/To God give the glory /Trust His decree/No matter what it be/You and me we were both like each other/Now I got to love you like a mother.”

Or in “Bang Bang” where the two explain the situations and reactions of constant oppression, killing of the innocent and injustice. A slow hypnotic sample of a female singing “Bang Bang”… makes the message clear and obvious. In it, Ali Umar explains the outcome clearly: “When Ya kill millions with no remorse/Ya gonna push folks beyond just talk/To the next level into a violent course/No treaties, no handshakes, no smiles no mo’/Cause ya murder innocent women and kids/But support and let the real terrorists live…” and again, in Peep the Visual where The Lead uses their talented wordplay over a warmth and uplifting track…Jabbaruddin opens up : “Peep the Visual/Sweet individual/You looking good like an Angel in the physical !” Continuing is Ali Umar in the second verse: “Whoa ! She looking good with them sandals on/Humming a tune she got from Luther Van Dross’s Song” No doubt this a track about the ideal woman with the ideal qualities… that men talk about.

The Builderz Album, is a showcase of life. How life is really lived, felt, and expressed. The album shows that life is not filled with the monotony of the thug/killer attitude. Neither is it redundant on the aspects of bling bling, ice and jewels. It is a creative masterpiece – compelling powerful and true ! Containing messages and lyrics of profound substance.
