One of their group members, Abdul-Malik Ahmad explains:
“We try to provide a fun, enjoyable music alternative to Muslims who wish to be true to their American identity, but want to follow the tenants of their religion. In the video, we travel around the world meeting Muslims of different ethnicities and enjoy the unity and sense of brotherhood that Ramadan brings. In the end, however, we all come together to an American mosque based in Sterling, VA to showcase the new Muslim American culture that is emerging rapidly.”

Turkey bacon on the plate but I’m beefing. I’m up here sleeping, when they’re down here eating.

Scenes like this, it makes me reminisce what it meant growing up with Ramadan as a kid.
My homie’s buying up the corner store. Now or later, quarter waters,
We break at eight but its quarter to four.

They got jokes, like oh yeah he’s fasting. Something about blessings, heaven everlasting
Asking like the Feds up on me, “But dude, let me ask you for real, is you hungry?”

A hunger for the day when the sins on my slate be as empty as the food on my plate.
And if you got jokes, man here is a taste. Take a little fasters breath to the face.

Ramadan vibrations, more donations. Dinner invitations, many supplications
Good behavior means better reputations. Don’t start nothing, no provocations

No fighting no argumentation. From the fitna and the drama, take a vacation
Mosque is packed with a huge congregation. Some just come as an annual visitation

Some just come for the hum of the recitation. Memorization of revelation,
Less temptation, with more contemplation. Getting ready for the Eid celebration

This is a nasheed released to raise money for Muslim Aid last Ramadan (2008). It is beautiful mashAllah, with no musical instruments, so I thought I’d post it anyway for this Ramadan (2009) as well. The primary artist is newcomer Mujahid ul Haq featuring the vocals of Labbayk.

Awakening Records is pleased to announce the release of the world’s first animated peace music video on Palestine. Palestine will be Free’ is performed by Awakening’s latest music sensation – Maher Zain.

This is the first time an animated peace music video has been produced on Palestine: “We are recognised as pioneers and constantly pushing the bounds of creativity and innovation. This animated music video for our new star artist Maher Zain is just another step in that direction and certainly not the last”, said Bara Kherigi, Director of Awakening Records. Destined to be an international success, the video features the story of a young brave Palestinian girl who never loses hope for a better future despite the harsh realities surrounding her.

“Huzur Aagye Hai” is the first single taken from the brand new debut Urdu nasheed/naat album of the upcoming nasheed artist Hussain. The English translation of the title is “The Prophet(saw) is Born”. Here is a small exerpt of what Jamal Records has to say about the new album:

About the struggle

In the 19th Century the land of Palestine was inhabited by a multicultural population – Muslim, Christian, and Jewish people – all living in peace…

Today, however the region endures one of the post drawn out conflicts the world has seen and each day brings further oppression and bloodshed. At the dawn of 2009, the plight of Palestinians became highlighted to the world due to the horrific number of casualties, especially amongst women and children as a result of intense Israeli aggression. Amid this hardship, there is still hope that peace and sanity will prevail…the struggle continues…
